The Be Do Have Principle of Achievement
Feb 17, 2023Everyone wants to succeed at something! Furthermore, we all want to achieve more. However, "having" can only be realized when we do more, and doing more can only be accomplished by being more. To quote Zig Ziglar, "You have to BE before you can DO and DO before you can HAVE." In other words, the simplest formula to achieving success is; Be, Do, Have.
BE
Being is the essence of who we are. It is becoming the best version of yourself. To "be" means being authentic, trustworthy, and possessing good character. It is having congruence between who you think you are and what you do. The contrary is what is referred to as cognitive dissonance, which means that there are inconsistencies between who you think you are and what you do. To have, therefore, you must do all that lies within your power to change the inconsistency.
DO
Doing is intricately linked to being and is a reflection of who you are, including your beliefs, views, and values about life. In essence, who you think you are, will determine the actions you take, and the actions you take will determine the results you get. It is prudent, therefore, to assess your action daily to determine if they are consistent with who you are because no one usually outperforms their self-esteem, which is the core of who we are.
HAVE
Having is the result of who we are and what we do. Therefore, a significant part of achieving success hinges on who you are. This reality is because, in life, you don't attract what you want; you instead attract who you are. So what if the problem is not the problem? What if you are the problem? Could it be that your internal state keeps getting in your way? As Earl Nightingale suggests, "We are all self-made, but only the successful will admit it." In other words, all that we are is the result of who we decide to be. Therefore, If you want to do more and have more in life, you must become more.
